Dwellings
The Hupa had very interesting houses. They built their houses out of cedar planks cut from logs. The planks were set in an upright rectangular shape surrounding a pit. A spot had been dug under the wood for the house. A lower spot inside the house had rocks in the middle for a fire to be built. There was also a dirt shelf which was used for storage. You would enter the dwelling through a small hole cut in the side of the dwelling. Every family had their own house. The women and children slept in the house but the men all slept in the sweathouse.
